Last time I checked, there were more holidays then just Christmas. So when I say Happy Holidays it's may just be because I don't celebrate Christmas, understand that other people might not celebrate Christmas, and/or want to also acknowledge New Years in one simple phrase since when I say this it's in passing to someone. Instead of taking my head off when I say it, perhaps thinking of your reason for the season is in order.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS.

EDIT: Now more legibility.

I still say Merry Christmas, I just don't think people should get insanely offended by someone(politely) saying "Merry Christmas", to me it's okay to say "Thanks, but I celebrate *enter other holiday here*", it's just a matter of habit around here to say Merry Christmas. In my view the political correctness is just plain annoying, but if I KNOW YOU and you celebrate something else, then sure, I'll say Happy Holiday or Happy whatever you celebrate.
Plus, one little thing...
Around here they did the lighting of the "Holiday Tree"...
What the fuck? Okay, can this at least be a Christmas Tree? I see no reason why you have to call it the Holiday Tree... It sounds bad

Actually, I see more people throwing temper tantrums about people saying Happy Holidays than I do about people saying Merry Christmas. In fact, I find the rage so hard they call it a "War on Christmas". It's rather hilarious. I don't call saying Happy Holidays politically correct, I just find it polite.

Saying Holiday Tree is kind of trying to tie in, again, everyone celebrates different things and trees have been used by varying religions over the centuries to celebrate different winter solstice holidays. Again, it's learning to be a bit inclusive, but people will do whatever they want and cry about it.

I love you.

I've never in my life met a single person who was offended when they were wished a Merry Christmas. I have, however, had to endure rants and ravings against the "War on Christmas."

Me-Happy Holidays, Grandma!
Grandma-OMFG ITS MERRY CHRISTMAS STOP BEING SO PC!
Me-Wth? Just enjoy your fucking holiday.
